Relay for Life is chance to give

Evesham Editorial 25th Mar, 2018   0

EVESHAM’S Relay For Life chiefs have invited caring town residents to get involved in this year’s event and revealed last year’s charity challenge raised an impressive £75,677.

The 2018 event will be held at The De Montfort School on Four Pools Road on September 1 and 2 with organisers hoping the smash through the £750,000 barrier.

Over the last decade, the popular town event has raised an incredible £731,518 for Cancer Research UK and now organisers hope more Evesham residents will join the committee to ensure the 2018 event is better than ever.

Volunteer Event Chair, Paul Baylis told the Observer: “We need teams and more the merrier. We have a range of opportunities on offer and would be interested in hearing from anyone who would like to give something back to the local community.

“We cannot organise the event without the incredible work of our volunteers. I can’t thank all those who have donated or given up their time make this amazing total possible.

Relay For Life is a team fund-raising challenge bringing communities together to beat cancer.

Organised by a dedicated volunteer committee, Relay For Life is a 24 hour community celebration. Teams, cancer survivors, their caregivers and volunteers come together to take part in a 24 hour Relay For Life event to show that together we’re stronger than cancer.

Anyone who has ever heard the words ‘you have cancer’ is invited to join Relay For Life as VIP guest, and to lead the festivities by taking part in the Survivors’ Lap of Honour. We encourage survivors to invite someone who has looked after them, held their hand or been a friend during the illness to join the celebrations, too.

“Bring together 8-15 friends, family or colleagues. Get the kids involved. Set a team goal and lead your team to fund-raising success. At the Relay For Life event you’ll lead from the front as your team proves that together we’re stronger than cancer,” Paul added.
