Refill is better than single use says MP

PERSHORE’s MP Harriett Baldwin has repeated her support for a national scheme which helps local people to refill their personal water bottles, rather than use single use plastic bottles.

Mrs Baldwin met with the national campaign organisers at an event at the House of Commons.

The refill scheme encourages local businesses to allow people to fill up their own bottles with tap water. The Bristol-based charity has promised to prioritise plans to roll out the scheme in West Worcestershire following the meeting with the MP.

There are already 20,000 refill stations across the UK where people can access water for their water bottles and the scheme is valued by commuters and tourists who want to get a drink without having to buy a single-use plastic bottle.

“Over the last nine months, I’ve had extensive contact with the charity and met with Malvern Hills District Council to try and champion this important scheme,” the West Worcestershire MP said.

“Like most people, I am alarmed by our increasing reliance on single-use plastics and this seems to be a really good scheme to help visitors to Malvern, Tenbury, Pershore and Upton-upon-Severn to refill their own water bottles.

“I’m keen to see this scheme rolled out swiftly across West Worcestershire and the charity has promised to accelerate their plans and support the local council in this important environmental project,” she added.
