Pushing the case for county sport

A TOP rugby player from a local club is taking part in a nationwide advertising campaign promoting Worcestershire as a place to live, work and play sport.

Georgia Hussey is a founding member of the Wolverines, the women’s team at Woodrush Rugby Club.

Speaking about her home county, Georgia said “I love Worcestershire as it provides me with the best of both worlds.

“I have beautiful open countryside on my doorstep, as well as the UK’s second biggest city just a 20-minute bus ride away.

“Woodrush Rugby Club has always been a second home for me, with my stepdad and uncle playing for the men’s team since they were teenagers.

“I had no intention of missing out on the action so got involved with the Wolverines.

“I am hoping England’s fantastic success in Japan Rugby World Cup will inspire more players in Worcestershire to get out on the field.”

Georgia is joined in the campaign by former Worcester Warriors legend, Nick Baxter, who became the first rugby union player to score 100 national league tries along the way and the only one to score 150.

He said: “Lots of big organisations have decided to have their base here or have one of their large UK offices here.

“We’ve got a good talent pool of individuals to help support growth. A good support network in terms of the council and funding. The schools are great. The people are great. The city is great. It’s also a safe place,”

Nick and Georgia featured on billboards across the country as part of the #MoreInWorcestershire Campaign, including Paddington and Euston Stations in London, the Bullring Shopping Centre, New Street Station in Birmingham and Birmingham International Airport.
