PROTESTORS demonstrating outside the US Embassy in London about the death of American George Floyd should ‘think long and hard about putting additional pressure on the police’ during the pandemic.

That’s the view of West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion who added: “It is a very small minority that use protests as an opportunity for civil disobedience, and it is important to remember that police officers are there to ensure that peace is maintained, and should be treated respectfully.”

Videos of the angry scenes were shared extensively on social media with demonstrators abusing British officers by aggressively chanting abusive slogans.

There were 23 arrests reported for a variety of offences, including assaults on police officers and social distancing breaches.

The ‘Black Lives Matter’ demonstration was one of many held around the World.

They followed a shocking video of Mr Floyd being held down with a police officer kneeling on his neck.

The former officer has been charged with the 46-year-old’s murder.
