A PROJECT which helps adults living with dementia relive memories from the 1940s, 50s and 60s is coming to Evesham.
Suitcase Stories, which is run by Museums Worcestershire and supported by Wychavon District Council, uses the art of storytelling and reminiscence to trigger memories in the minds of those living with dementia.
Through special workshops, participants in the project have been holding, touching, smelling and feeling objects such as carbolic soap and old pictures from the Royal Family.
Their reactions to the objects, which all fell into theme of holidays, nature, hair and beauty, food, hobbies and family, have helped to inspire stories for storyteller Gavin Young to create a live performance of storytelling and music.
A performance will be taking place in Evesham at the Scout Hut in Hampton next Wednesday (April 5) from 11.30am.
Jenny Davis, Suitcase Stories Project Manager said: “It’s been extraordinary to see the participants of the project throw themselves so fully in to it, sharing their memories and stories.
“These memories are to be cherished and I’m so glad that they are being preserved through the stories Gavin Young is creating. I’m excited to see the finished performance at the dementia cafes and how the live music will change and enhance those stories.”
