A PRISONER at HMP Long Lartin has been handed a life sentence for the ‘brutal and unprovoked’ murder of a fellow inmate.
Victor Castigador was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court today (Friday) after pleading guilty on Friday, September 23 to the murder of Sidonio Eugenio Teixeira.
Castigador was already in prison for the murder of two people and the attempted murder of another two people in London in 1990.
The court heard how, as the 61-year-old and the victim were making their way to the prison workshop, Castigador landed multiple blows to Teixeira’s head with a rock during the incident on June 20.
Sidonio Eugenio Teixeira died as a result of his injuries on the way to hospital.
Detective Inspector Paul Hardman, who led the investigation, said:”The sentence indicates the severity of the attack which was brutal and unprovoked.
“The defendant showed no concern that his actions could ultimately result in taking another life and instead acted to settle a score in a calculated and vengeful way.”
