Positive turn in Station Road junction saga

THE LONG-RUNNING SAGA over the Station Road traffic junction in Pershore could be coming to a close after developers admitted they were ready to start work on a new traffic junction.

Pershore MP Harriett Baldwin met with Persimmon Homes to discuss the issues delivering a road junction which is currently causing traffic misery for local motorists.

Last month, Mrs Baldwin agreed to work with the local authorities and the housing developer to mediate a long-running dispute which has seen a temporary junction in operation for over a year.

Persimmon Homes’ Andy Peters confirmed that a permanent solution is ready to be implemented and he could start work on a permanent junction if deemed acceptable by Worcestershire County Council.

The West Worcestershire MP has now agreed to discuss the matter with highways chiefs at County Hall to attempt to speed up the permissions to build a fit-for-purpose junction.

She said: “Persimmon Homes assured me that it is ready to start work on the junction as specified in the original planning permission.

“It was useful to hear the feedback from the housing developer regarding this issue and together we found some common ground to work towards delivering a swift solution.

“I will be talking to the county council to identify a way to speed up the approval process for this junction.

“While the initial focus will be on returning to smooth-flowing traffic along Station Road, we also need to look again at what the right medium-term solution is for motorists as the new Pershore Link Road plans are developed in the 2020s.

“I hope that as part of that process, highways experts will properly consult with local people to ensure the right longer-term solution is considered and implemented.”
