PORT Street in Evesham which was closed on Saturday following a sewer collapse is scheduled to reopen on Thursday morning.
It is estimated tomorrow (Wednesday) the ‘shutting’ barriers will be removed and then the area has to be cleaned up and damage fixed with ‘foam concrete’ before things can return to normal.
Port Street is shut with a diversion taking motorists via Broadway Road, the A46, Cheltenham Road and Waterside.
It is not yet known what caused the collapse.
Tankers were sent in to pump the sewage from the area and take it away so the work can be carried out.
A Severn Trent spokesperson said on Monday: “Our teams are currently working to fix a collapsed sewer pipe on Port Street.
“To keep them, and everybody else safe as they work, we’ve had to close a section of the road.
“We’re really sorry for the inconvenience, but it will be our priority to fix the pipe and get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
