VISITORS to a popular Evesham sweet shop will be transported from the Vale to Egypt as part of the store’s week-long birthday celebrations.
Mr Chill’s Traditional Sweet Emporium, on Bridge Street, is offering a variety of sweet treats for lovers of all things liquorice, starting with a free tasting of a new soft drink on Saturday to begin the shop’s seventh birthday celebrations.
The ‘Sweet Genie’ drink, available in three liquorice based flavours, has been developed locally by Moustafa Elgendy who moved from Egypt to Evesham in 2011.
Liquorice drinks are extremely popular in Egypt, but Moustafa was unable to source anything similar when he moved to the UK, so he has created his own, which is bottled locally at Pershore College.
He will be handing out samples of the drink at the sweet shop between 11.00am and 3pm on Saturday.
From October 2 to October 6, Mr Chill’s will also be offering a special discount on a different liquorice treat each day. The discounted products will include Black Jacks, Swedish Strawberry rounds and retro Torpedoes.
Shoppers can also take part in a free to enter prize draw to win a luxury liquorice hamper.
Mr Chill said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our seventh year in Evesham and we chose to run this promotion because liquorice confectionery has always proved extremely popular with our customers.
“We are very excited to be adding the unique Sweet Genie drink to our range and hope people will take advantage of the free tasting event to sample it for themselves.”
