A POPULAR Evesham pub is celebrating after scooping a Pubs in Bloom Award.

The Royal Oak, run by Alistair Barlow, beat more than 300 entries to win the regional and divisional stage of the competition which is run by Enterprise Inns.

The pub company organises the awards each year to showcase the best outdoor displays across its portfolio of 5000 pubs in the UK.

As well as the glory of winning the title, the Vine Street pub also won £1,500 in total which will be used to reinvest back into the popular drinking spot.

Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddleston visited the pub last Friday (March 3) to hand them their award and said: “I was delighted to learn that Royal Oak has won both the regional and divisional awards in the annual Pubs in Bloom competition.

“I have visited the pub with friends several times in the past and know how hard the team work both outside and inside to make visiting an enjoyable experience for their customers.

“The blooming flowers at the Royal Oak, especially in the spring and summer, and indeed other pubs in Evesham really add to the beauty of the environment which the whole community appreciates.”

Alistair Barlow said: “Winning an award for nice flowers almost seems a bit daft, but we are just as proud of this as any of our food and drink awards.

“As a team we are constantly striving to give our guests the best experience we can so it’s fantastic to receive this recognition.”
