A POPULAR Evesham butcher proved to be a cut above the rest when he scooped success at a national competition.
David Purser who owns the Master Butcher shop on Avon Street won Gold for all10 products entered across six categories at the National Meat Products competition in Milton Keynes.
Among the entries, four of the products were scored the full 100 marks as judges marvelled at David’s creations.
David’s bangers proved to be a cut above the rest as his traditional pork, his smoked bacon and asparagus, traditional chicken all scored highly with the judges.
His success means David will now advance to the Champion of Champions competition in the Autumn where he has a one in 25 chance of being crowned National Sausage Champion.
Judges approved of his Vale Faggots with 96 out of 100 while his BBQ burger received a sensational score of 99 out of 100.
David’s lamb and mint Burger scored 96 out 100 while the kentucky chicken burger scored 97 out 100.
The judges reserved the highest praise for the Easton Sizzler pork burger and the smoked bacon and asparagus pork which both scored top marks.
His sizzling success meant David won both the burger classes of the competition and the popular butcher was delighted with the ‘amazing’ result.
“There were 48 butchers from all over the UK who entered 300 products, the competition is always of the highest standard,” he said.
“I am humbled by the amazing comments from the judges and fellow competitors as it proves all the hard work I put in has paid off.
“It hasn’t come as a complete shock as our Lincolnshire won the West Midlands best Flavoured Sausage in British Sausage Week at the end of last year.
“This has put our great town on the map now.”
