EVESHAM town centre reverberated with the sound of Polish music as the community came together to celebrate its national heritage day last Saturday (May 2).

Market Square was buzzing with people browsing stalls selling traditional products, as visitors were entertained with dancing from folk troupe Wiesniacy from Birmingham.

Members presented traditional Polish folk dances and invited the audience to join in the Polonaise, a traditional Polish court dance.

One of the highlights of the day was the art exhibition by students of the Polish Language School in Evesham, inspired by the works of Polish painter and writer Józef Czapski.

Organiser Ewa Polanska of the school told the Observer: “Our Polish Heritage Day was a great success. Fortunately, the weather was on our side, with rain starting at the very end of the event.

“Thanks to a Polish DJ, we enjoyed a fantastic musical atmosphere throughout the day.

“We were also delighted to welcome a children’s animator from Dreamland, who engaged both children and adults in fun activities and games, such as tug-of-war.

Of course, no Polish celebration would be complete without delicious food and young and old enjoyed Polish bread, bigos, pierogi, zapiekanki, and a wide selection of homemade cakes, waffles, and ice cream.

“We were honoured to welcome both the current and future mayors of Evesham, as well as MP Nigel Huddleston,” Ewa added.
