Police offer tips after spate of break-ins around Evesham town centre

A SPATE of shed breaks and thefts in a small area of Evesham town centre has prompted police to issue safety advice in the hopes of cutting crime levels.

Officers are investigating the rash of thefts which began in mid-July and which are focused on four roads separated by the River Avon.

It appears offenders are targeting particular items including tools, pedal bikes, electric bikes and e-scooters and have so far been singling out specific roads including Leicester Grove, Rynal Place, Anne Crescent and Burford Road.

Now Evesham’s Safer Neighbourhood Team are encouraging homeowners storing valuables in sheds to consider if their shed is vulnerable to a break in and have recommended installing security systems and CCTV.

They suggest considering whether the padlock is secure enough, pay attention to exposed screws and hinges and if possible, secure windows with wire mesh or grills.

Evesham SNT also advise installing battery-operated shed alarms which are hard to spot but respond to movement or door contact with an extremely loud siren.

Officers also advise securing bikes or tools to the ground or a lockable stand within the locked shed.

Property or forensic marking of items with your name and postcode or spraying forensic liquid such as SmartWater on them is also advised.

Lastly, installing CCTV can not only act as a deterrent but also help provide evidence during an investigation.

Those who have been offered items for sale much cheaper than its value have been asked to email [email protected] with information.
