Pogba’s starring role at the River Festival

ORGANISERS of the Pershore River Festival are hoping France’s Paul Pogba has a starring role in Sunday’s World Cup final in a a bid to raise cash for a good cause.

The festival has managed to obtain a signed photograph of Manchester United star Pogba and they plan to auction it at next Sunday’s (July 21) event.

The auction for the photograph will take place at the River Festival at 4pm after the draw for the luxury raffle. Bids in advance can be made through the Pershore River Festival Facebook page. All funds raised will go to the Pershore Riverside Youth Centre

Charles Tucker of the Festival committee said: “The Manchester United Foundation gave us the photo of Paul Pogba to help with our fund-raising, for which we’re very grateful. We will be auctioning it at the River Festival and hope that it will make a substantial amount of money.

“If France win the World Cup it could make even more and if Paul Pogba scores the winning goal, who knows what it could be worth!”

This year’s theme of the Festival is “The Navy Lark” and organisers are looking forward to people entering into the spirit of chaos that ran through this very popular radio series from the 1970s.

Leslie Phillips’ ‘left hand down a bit” and Jon Pertwee’s “Everybody down” catchphrases were the watchwords of the series as they steered HMS Troutbridge from collision to disastrous collision.

“We’re hoping that the Navy Lark theme will spark off old memories and new ideas. We want everyone to think of ways to give the River Festival a real nautical theme. We’d love to see boats decorated as “HMS Troutbridge” and naval uniforms, mermaids etc will be very welcome,” Mr Tucker added.

The heart of the Festival is of course boats and the river and organisers are expecting boats to take part from across the Midlands.

There will be regular river trips organised by Avon Navigation Trust and plenty of opportunities to try water sports such as paddle boarding and canoeing at the Riverside Centre.

Other activities will include stalls, food and other family entertainments, all centred around the Riverside Youth Centre in Pershore.
