CELEBRATIONS are in order for organisers of the Pershore Plum Festival after the popular event picked up a top tourism gong for the fourth year in a row.

At a glitzy awards ceremony hosted by the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday (September 20) at Eastnor Castle, the Plum Festival won the Visit Worcestershire Award for Excellence in the Best Festival and Community Events category.

The festival hosts fringe events throughout August, but the main finale takes place on the Bank Holiday when thousands of residents and visitors descend on the town centre for the festivities.

Angela Tidmarsh, Tourism Officer for Wychavon and chair of the festival committee, said: “I’m so thrilled we have won this award again. We think this was the best year yet so this is the icing on the cake and a fantastic reward for all those who work so hard to make this event a success.

“There is so much that goes on associated with the festival – it raises money for charity, has had many a celebrity appearance, we even have a 10k run now led by the Pershore Plum Plodders.”
