Planners green light move for Vale transport firm

Evesham Editorial 19th Jan, 2017   0

A VALE haulage firm’s future in Evesham has moved a step closer to being secured after planning chiefs approved plans to move the business to Vale Park.

Family-owned R Sinclair Transport (RST) has been given the green light to build its 80,000 sq ft brand new distribution warehouse with offices, together with a large yard and lorry wash.

Councillors on Wychavon District Council’s planning committee unanimously voted in favour of the plans at a meeting last Thursday (January 12).

The firm, established by Ron Sinclair in 1947, has been based on Davies Road for the past 33 years and the proposed move to Vale Park will keep the haulage company in the town and allow it to expand and create more jobs.

The company is now waiting on a decision from planning chiefs on proposals submitted by property and investment company, Helical Retail, to redevelop the current RST site on Davies Road into a retail park.

If approved, R Sinclair Transport will remain at its current place until the new facilities on Vale Park have been built.

As the Observer has previously reported, Aldi and TK Maxx have already been lined up for the redeveloped site, with the occupier of the last remaining unit yet to be announced.

Speaking at the meeting, Patrick Downes, the agent for R Sinclair Transport, said: “This is indeed another example of a new facility designed to accommodate the expansion needs for long-term accommodation of a local business.

“It is an appropriate use on an allocated employment site which represents a long-term commitment in Evesham and the district.”

Coun Frances Smith said: “This is a prime example of good working between a council’s officers and developers.

“I think the design of this building is great and I know from personal experience that Mr Sinclair Snr, who sadly died a little while ago, this was one of his wishes that he could move on to Vale Park.”
