Planners give green light to major refurbishment of Evesham's McDonald's

PLANNING chiefs have given the green light to major plans for a complete refurbishment of Evesham’s McDonald’s which will see the restaurant extended and given a fresh new look.

Fast food chain bosses’ plans were approved by planning officers at Wychavon District Council last week which will now allow them to overhaul the look and layout of the store to bring it into line with McDonald’s new look for its restaurants.

As part of the refurbishment, the restaurant will be extended by a total of 91.8 sqm to expand the dining area which will add about 25 more seats for customers. The extension will see improvements made to back of house storage and staff facilities.

Changes will also be made to the way the food is prepared and served. The cooking process will change to ‘made for you’ which means the burgers are prepared just as orders are placed.

The way customers order will change too with four self service order kiosks added, but there will still be a till for customers who want to pay by cash.

And to freshen up the exterior of the building, the fast food chain’s ‘folded roof’ concept will be introduced which will see timber and khaki cladding added to the roof.

Franchise owner, Sarah McLean, said: “Since I purchased the restaurant just over three years ago this will be the first major refurbishment, but the second large scale reinvestment.

“The first was the addition of a second drive-thru lane to make the service faster in 2015. This second phase, as well as changing the look of the dining area in refurbishing it to a wood and stone theme with chesterfield sofas will see the cooking and service platforms change.

“The total investment is around £1 million for Evesham.”
