Pie and Ale festival scrapped for 2015

EVESHAM’S Pie and Ale Festival has been scrapped for 2015 after organisers branded the annual event as ‘complex and labour intensive’.

Members of VECTA (Vale of Evesham Commerce and Tourism Association) voted to shelve this year’s event, due to be held in September, at a meeting on Wednesday (January 21).

The festival has been held in Evesham since 2011 and sees thousands of food and drink lovers flock into the town.

Visitors were able to sample and buy a range of food and ales, as well as enjoying some family-friendly entertainment including a bouncy castle, skating demonstrations, a gaming competition, face-painting and live music.

Organiser Vicky Lawson said: “VECTA has decided to disband the Pie and Ale festival for 2015 for several reasons.

“The festival was created by VECTA to help drive footfall in the town centre to help local traders and promote Evesham.

“Over the last four years it has done this, however it is a very labour intensive event for VECTA to host and we believe that our funding and efforts could be better placed supporting lots of local festivals and events rather than channelling all our efforts into a one day event.

“VECTA currently support, either through advice, finance or other forms of support various events and groups in Evesham and the Vale and we hope that by freeing up our time and resource we will be able to help many more in the future,” she added.
