PERSHORE town centre will be brightened up at night thanks to a new lighting scheme that aims to improve the look and feel of the town centre.
An overhead chain of LED festoon lights zig zag across the street from The Angel Hotel to The New Inn which is double the length of the previous lighting scheme.
As an added bonus, the lights also change colour with various options available meaning they can be switched on to support the town’s festivals and national holidays.
They will go on at dusk during the summer and from about 3pm in the winter. The project forms part of wider efforts to enhance the town centre and support the nighttime economy.
“The new lights look amazing and really enhanced the look of the high street. They’ll add something different to the town for people to enjoy, especially as we go through the seasons and watch the colours change,” said project lead Darren Eden, chair of Pershore Place Board.
Charlie MacIntyre, clerk of Pershore Town Council, added: “Pershore Town Council is delighted to have completed this project as a result of generous funding from the Pershore Place Board.
“For some years the council has wanted to extend the lighting to include the whole of the High Street and so pleased that we have now been able to do this.”
Cllr Richard Morris, leader and executive member for economic growth and tourism, said: “I’m delighted working with Pershore Place Board and Pershore Town Council, we’ve been able to deliver this enhanced lighting scheme which will create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.”
The project, completed in partnership with Wychavon District Council and Pershore Town Council, was funded by Wychavon’s share of the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
