Pershore supplement manufacturer credits success to business support programme

A SUPPLEMENT business based in Pershore is being celebrated for its meteoric rise from self-funded start-up to a global industry leader.

Nootro Labs, one of the UK’s fastest-growing nutraceutical manufacturers, is on track to exceed £3million in turnover this year, with ambitious plans to reach £20million within five years.

Founded in 2021 by Cary Holmes, Nootro Labs began in a modest unit in Cannock and quickly scaled to a purpose-built facility in Pershore thanks in part to support from the Elevate Worcestershire programme funded by the county council.

Within just three years, the company became the first in the world to earn BRCGS food safety accreditation for its hemp, mushroom, nootropic and adaptogen products, which can be found at leading UK retailers like Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy and Holland & Barrett.

Now entering its fifth year, Nootro Labs is investing £600,000 in a new 10,000 square foot site dry-production facility in Tenbury Wells.

The company credits much of its success to the business support programme, which has helped Nootro Labs launch its first own-brand product range, create three new full-time roles, and boost operational productivity.

CEO Cary Holmes said: “I’ve been incredibly appreciative of the support from Worcestershire County Council (WCC) and the Elevate Manufacturing Worcestershire programme.

“The guidance and insight from Phil Somers in particular has been fantastic, helping us strengthen our strategy and build for long-term growth.

“I’m genuinely grateful for the help we’ve received and hope many other businesses get the chance to experience the same level of support.

“Programmes like this play a vital role in helping ambitious companies like ours to innovate, work more efficiently, and continue to grow and prosper.”

The programme, run by Oxford Innovation, offers hands-on support to Worcestershire-based manufacturers through expert guidance, masterclasses, and match-funded grants covering up to 40 per cent of project costs.

Councillor Alan Amos, WCC’s cabinet member for business and skills, added: “Nootro Labs is a shining example of the ambition and innovation thriving here in Worcestershire.

“Its success demonstrates what’s possible when businesses are given the tools to scale, invest, and break into new markets.

“We’re proud to have supported their journey through the Elevate programme, and I strongly encourage other businesses to register their interest quickly as there are only five spaces remaining.”

The UK dietary supplements market size was estimated at £3.48billion in 2024 and is projected to reach £7.01 billion by 2033.
