A PERSHORE shoplifter was handed an 18-week sentence for six counts of theft when she appeared at court today (Thursday, December 19).

Kathleen Chesworth, 41, of Goldfinch Rise, Pershore, was convicted of one count of theft from dwelling and five counts of theft from shop at Kidderminster Magistrates Court.

Chesworth was arrested at an address in Pershore on Tuesday and convicted of the offences – which date from the end of October through November – at Kidderminster Magistrates Court today.

On December 16, Chesworth was given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which banned her from a number of premises in the town.

Among them were ASDA, King Georges Way,  Tesco Express, High Street, Savers, High Street,  Boots, High Street,  Co-op, Racecourse Road, Pplumz Ltd, High Street and The Factory Shop – all in Pershore.

She is also prohibited from refusing to leave any retail premises when asked by someone who has authority to do so and from entering any retail premises that she has been banned from, where a banning letter/notice has been given to her previously.

On the CBO Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Wychavon, Dave Wise, said: “Chesworth’s prolific shoplifting has led to this three-year CBO which we hope will protect retailers and the public from further criminality from this individual.

On the prison sentence, Sgt Cath Atkinson of Pershore Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We are pleased to get this swift court sentencing today following Chesworth’s arrest on Tuesday.

“We take retail crime seriously and work hard with our retail partners to ensure thieves are brought to justice.”
