THE annual Round Table raft race made a splash in Evesham as a team from Pershore triumphed on their debut appearance.
Organised by the Vale of Evesham Round Table, the event saw teams from Malvern, Cirencester, Gloucester and Hereford take to the River Avon for the annual challenge.
The object of the race was for teams of four to navigate their way across the breadth of the river and back in the quickest possible time using a raft assembled from several barrels and pallets.
This year’s winner was Pershore Round table who took part in the event for the first time.
Chairman Ian Thorner said: “We were confident going in and it was warmer than we expected.
“I had faith in the lads and knew our guile and cunning would see us through. It was well worth a mouthful of river water and we’ll be defending our title next year.”
