Pershore pupils flow through insightful Severn Trent Water workshops

STUDENTS at Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School in Pershore were treated to an engaging exploration of the ‘Wonderful World of Water’ by Severn Trent, the water company serving the region.

Through a series of interactive workshops and a special ‘Super Sewers’ assembly, pupils gained valuable insights into water conservation and learned about the critical role they play in protecting the environment.

Severn Trent’s education team highlighted the consequences of improper waste disposal, particularly emphasising the impact of flushing items like wet wipes down the toilet.

The session shed light on the potential formation of sewer blockages and fatbergs, underlining the importance of responsible water usage to prevent environmental hazards.

In addition to raising awareness about water conservation, the workshops provided students with hands-on experiences, including opportunities to address simulated burst pipes and explore the science behind ensuring water quality.

Rob Jansen, education officer at Severn Trent, said: “We were delighted to be invited to talk to pupils at Holy Redeemer who seemed to really enjoy the assembly and workshops – particularly the gross parts.

“We are passing on important messages to the next generation, including that only the three Ps should be pushed down the loo; poo, pee, and paper.”

The company’s education team having reached almost 900 schools across the region since last April, engaging with more than 9,400 pupils in Worcestershire alone.

Their educational schemes include assemblies, workshops, and the deployment of interactive buses – The Digibus and the Experibus – offering immersive experiences to students and communities.

Interested schools can email [email protected] for more on the scheme and organising a similar visit.
