Pershore Poppy Appeal kicks off

Evesham Editorial 23rd Oct, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

PERSHORE’S Poppy Appeal will kick-start today (Saturday) with the official launch in the town centre.

This year’s appeal is set to get underway at 10am with the Pershore and District Branch Royal British Legion hosting two events throughout the day.

In Chapman Court, outside ASDA on the High Street, the Travelling Museum of First World War and Second World War artefact’s will be on display until 4pm.

From 7pm to 10pm the Women’s Section will then play host to a new event at Pershore Town Football Club on King George’s Way called ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’.

A light supper and entertainment in the spirit of the Second World War will be included, along with a performance from The Bluetones Jazz Band. Tickets are available from the Town Hall or Pershore Library with guests asked to ‘dress to impress’.

This will be followed by the sale of poppies in the town for two weeks this year, instead of one. Poppy merchandise will also be able to buy at Pershore Naval Social Club from tomorrow.

A third main event will take place next Saturday (November 1) when Pershore and District Royal Naval Association play host to their very own Poppy Party.

The event, which will celebrate the birthdays of their oldest and youngest members, is free to attend but a grand raffle will take place to raise money for the Appeal.

The branch also hope to have their book ‘Pershore Men of the Great War’ available for sale and all profit will be going to the cause.

Historical artefact’s on display last year. (s)
