A MAN is in a critical condition with multiple serious injuries after he was hit by a lorry between junction seven and eight of the M5.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 7.40pm last night (Monday) to reports of a collision between the pedestrian and a lorry on the southbound side of the carriageway.

He was given specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he remains in a critical condition.

The motorway was closed for more than eight hours to allow an investigation to be carried out.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and two Midland Air Ambulance Critical Care Cars attended the scene.

“The pedestrian had suffered multiple serious injuries in the collision and received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham in a critical condition.”

Fire crews from Worcester, Droitwich, Upton-upon-Severn and Evesham were called to the scene to assist with the incident and subsequent investigation.

Motorists caught between the incident and junction seven were turned around on the carriageway and escorted back to the Worcester exit.
