CYCLISTS are being urged to use pedal power to raise money at the second ever Plum Bikeaway event.

The second annual event will take place on Sunday (September 16) at Pershore College to raise valuable funds for various charities and also to celebrate Pershore’s famous Plum heritage.

Cyclists have the option of three plum routes – the Greengage eight mile tour, the Yellow Egg 23 mile trip or the Purple Plum 52 miles journey around the delightful Vale of Evesham – to suit all ages and capabilities.

Registration starts at 9am with last entries being taken at 11am. The official start of the 52 mile route will be at 9.30am with other routes getting underway at 9.45am.

Tony Haines, chair of organisers Bikeaway Ventures said “The Plum Bikeaway is an essential event in the Vales’ cycling calendar and it raises valued funds for local charities.

“We are very honoured to have two local celebrities supporting us this year; Pershore St John Ambulance president Henry Sandon MBE and local TV presenter Arthur Williams, star of the recent Channel 4 series Flying Across Britain.

“We look forward to seeing them and you, don’t forget to dress you and your bike in purple to get in the Plum spirit.”

Registration is possible on the day of the event, at an additional charge of £2 per cyclist.
