A WEST Mercia Police Constable will stand trial next month following a two-car incident in Evesham in which a man died.

PC Abigail Myers appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday (June 20) charged with causing death by dangerous driving and death by careless driving.

She was charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into the incident on Elm Road on January 27 last year.

The 29-year-old was behind the wheel responding to an unrelated emergency assistance call when the patrol car was involved in a collision at the junction of Badsey Lane and Elm Road with a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Marcus Evans.

West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the scene but Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, an investigation was opened by the IOPC and at its conclusion last July, a report was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service.

After reviewing the evidence, the CPS decided to bring charges against PC Myers.

She was granted unconditional bail and will appear at Worcester Crown Court on July 18.
