A FIFTH specialist Violence Against Women and Girls officer has been appointed for South Worcestershire by West Mercia Police.

PC Lydia Burrows joins the team of four VAWG officers across the force area.

She will be based at Worcester Police Station and will also cover the more rural areas of Droitwich, Evesham and Malvern.

Lydia has valuable experience and skills working with women and the public, as her previous career was a hairdresser and nail technician.

Choosing a different career path where she could serve her community, Lydia began training as a police officer with West Mercia Police nearly four years ago.

Since joining the Force she has worked as a response officer and in the team protecting vulnerable people.

Lydia said: “I want to make a difference to our local community.

“To help people feel safe and supported and provide a service where victims receive caring and compassionate support, while ensuring that perpetrators of violence against women and girls are held to account for their actions.

Inspector Dave Bettison said: “I’m delighted that Lydia is the new specialist VAWG officer for South Worcestershire.

“Her appointment completes our VAWG team of five specialist officers across the force.

“Four earlier appointments were made in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Telford & Wrekin and North Worcestershire.

“Four specialist officers to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) are appointed.

“These new, forward-thinking appointments, highlight our commitment to tackling violence against women and girls.

“Working alongside their police colleagues and with our local partners, these officers will help prevent offending, pursue perpetrators, and build trust and confidence in our service.”
