Paying a silent tribute

Evesham Editorial 3rd Nov, 2018   0

A ‘SILENT Soldier’ will be on the streets of Evesham and Pershore in a poignant reminder of the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Wychavon District Council has teamed up with the Royal British Legion to display silhouettes of soldiers to serve as a reminder of the conflict. Evesham’s soldier has taken his position outside the Almonry.

As part of the ‘Thank You’ movement the Royal British Legion are inviting communities to reflect on and give thanks for the sacrifices made which helped shape the nation.

Coun Richard Morris, Wychavon’s armed forces champion, said: “This is a good opportunity for us to take stock and reflect on the sacrifices that all service personnel give and this is a very real and symbolic way to help us to do that.”

Soldiers can also be found in Droitwich and Broadway.
