Paws-itive progress for dog requiring specialist care at Dogs Trust Evesham

ODIE, a six-year-old Dalmatian crossbreed, is awaiting his forever home after making remarkable progress in Dogs Trust Evesham’s Special Rehabilitation Unit (SRU).

Following 12 months of special training to combat a range of anxieties he is thriving and ready to go to move on.

Odie first came into Dogs Trust care in 2021 when his owner became too unwell to care for him. Although he was friendly with those he knew, Odie had lived a quiet and sheltered life, which resulted in significant nervousness when faced with unknown scenarios.

After nearly two years in a home, he was sadly returned to Dogs Trust as his worries became increasingly difficult to manage. But after progressing with his training, Odie revealed the loving, affectionate nature that his anxieties had previously masked.

The Dogs Trust is hopeful that he will soon find a special home in a quiet, rural location with a family willing to dedicate the time and patience he needs.

Chris Slight, centre manager at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “The dedication of the SRU staff and their tailored approach to each dog’s needs highlight Dogs Trust’s commitment to ensuring every dog has the opportunity to succeed.

“We are incredibly proud of the progress these dogs have made. It’s a long journey for some, but seeing them flourish and prepare for their forever homes makes every effort worthwhile. Odie has come on leaps and bounds thanks to the SRU, and will make a wonderful addition to the family who end up adopting him.”

The SRU at Dogs Trust is a sanctuary for dogs requiring extra care, offering larger kennels with outdoor enclosures to give the dogs more freedom and access outdoor space directly from their kennels.

This calm environment helps the dogs feel secure and supported as dedicated staff work through their behavioural challenges to equip them with the skills and confidence they are lacking.
