Past and Present captured in this festival fund-raiser

A CHANCE to step back to the past will be on offer when a highly popular slide show returns to Pershore in a bid to raise cash for the town’s Plum Festival.

‘Pershore Past and Present’ was created by the Fuller family and Tuesday’s show (August 13) is only the second time in 50 years that the show has been staged.

Creator Ian Fuller revealed the show came about following a local tragedy in the town in the late 1960s.

“After a drowning in the River Avon it was decided that Pershore needed a swimming pool. A committee was formed and fund-raising started with various events like the carnival, sponsored walks and variety shows,” he said.

“My father Ernie, my uncle Ralph, my cousin Kenny and myself wanted to help out so as we were all photographers we decided to put together a colour slide show about how Pershore had changed over the years.

“This show we called Pershore Past And Present and it was shown many times in the early years at venues in and around the Pershore area.

“A lot of money was raised which all went towards the Avon Valley Swimming Pool Association fund. In the early 1970’s the new pool was built so the slide show went into storage,” he added.

In 2016, Ian, his brother Kevin and dad Ernie decided to load the show, slide by slide onto a computer and add some new up to dates images.

“Sadly my father, uncle Ralph and cousin Kenny are no longer with us so last year, in their memory, I thought it would be a perfect time to give people the opportunity to see it again or even for the first time,” he said.

“Following the popularity and success of the showing and by public demand over the past twelve months, we are delighted to say Pershore Past and Present is to be staged once again next week in the Baptist Church and will raise funds for the Pershore Plum Festival.”

Tickets are £7 with refreshments provided by Abbey Butchers and Worcester Racecourse.
