Parks bid to be best of British

Evesham Editorial 15th Sep, 2019   0

A RALLYING call for Vale residents to vote for their local Green Flag park to become the nation’s favourite has been issued.

Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, the People’s Choice Awards aim to find the country’s top ten parks from a record-breaking 1,970 awarded Green Flag Award status by the charity.

In July, Abbey Park and Workman Gardens in Evesham, Vines Park and Lido Park in Droitwich Spa, and Abbey Park in Pershore – all run by Wychavon District Council – maintained their Green Flag status.

The public will be able to vote for these five parks in an online poll until September 30, with the top ten sites being announced on October 15.

Running for more than 30 years, the Green Flag is a sign to visitors the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has the very best facilities.

Coun Emma Stokes, the council’s portfolio holder for environment, recycling and street scene, said: “It’s an honour to receive Green Flag status for our five parks and to win the People’s Choice Award would be the icing on the cake.

“As a council, we and our contractors, Continental Landscapes Limited, work hard throughout the year to maintain the high standards expected by our residents.”

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award manager, said: “This year we have had more Green Flag Award winning sites than ever before. The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you.”
