AN EVESHAM couple will be lacing up their running shoes to battle the elements of the Devil Mud Run in Cheltenham, in memory of two people close to them who lost brave battles against cancer.
Jade West will be running alongside partner, William Green at the event on September 16 in memory of her grandad Michael, who died at the beginning of this year.
After 19 years as a diabetic, Michael battled cancer for 12 years, chronic kidney disease for five years and several brain tumours over his last three years.
The active pair will also tackle the event in memory of Dot, a close family friend of William’s who died after a battle with cancer.
They are both challenging themselves in order to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK to give back to the charity for all the help, support and treatment which has been received.
In the space of just a month the couple have managed to raise £795 via their page for the charity and are now hoping to raise more than £1,000.
William said: “We are proud to be raising money for such a good cause, which affects us all in some way, whether knowing someone who has cancer or someone who has sadly lost their battle.
“We are happy to just give back to the people who are behind the scenes helping to find a cure and help save lives.”
The 9km Devil Mud Run is an off-road course, with various inclines and declines as well as a combination of 31 man-made and natural obstacles.
This event was due to take place on Sunday but because of bad weather this now takes place on Sunday, September 16, which gives the couple more time to train, fund-raise and raise awareness.
Jade said: “We are both really proud to be taking part and challenging ourselves in an event, running alongside others, some of whom are also raising money for fantastic causes.
“To run in memory of two amazing people, makes us immensely proud.”
