Pagan festival organiser appeals for esoteric traders so event can run

THE FUTURE of a free one-day festival in Evesham to mark the summer solstice is in jeopardy unless more traders take part.

The Evesham Pagan Festival is due to take place in the town centre on June 21 but could be cancelled unless more businesses sign up for a stand by Friday (April 25).

The festival made its first successful appearance in the town last March but a long delay in waiting to get permission to use Market Square and the top of Bridge Street has meant that a lot of traders that would have booked have already committed themselves to other events.

Organiser Sue Smith is appealing for anyone who sells crystals, tarot cards, besom brooms, flower crowns, jewellery or any other esoteric products to get in touch.

Sue, who has been a Pagan for 35 years, said: “This festival is being run for the community and after the success of last year we have decided to expand the event with a street market in the town centre and use the town hall for talks and demonstrations. She said that last year proved so popular they had to turn people away.

“We have several well known authors and practitioners booked to appear at the town hall including the renowned British astrologer Steve Judd.”

Sue explained that she needs to have confirmed the number of stalls and pay for the hire of the town hall by next Friday and added “I cannot pay for this whole thing out of my own pocket so unfortunately, unless I get a sudden influx of traders, this festival will not go ahead which would be a great shame.

“I wanted a yearly festival where the community could gather in central England and hoped it would grow organically, year on year.”

She added that they didn’t need food traders, crafters or musicians although any street performers would be welcome.

Aside from stalls to browse, talks and demonstrations, there will also be an abundance of dancing in the square as the event coincides with the Vale of Evesham National Morris Weekend.

Anyone interested should email Sue via [email protected] before next Friday, April 25 to confirm a spot which costs £40 per pitch.
