Overwhelmed by offers of help

Evesham Editorial 9th Apr, 2020   0

THE Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster General and Worcestershire Royal have been overwhelmed with offers of support from the public keen to give practical support to help staff and patients.

Now a new website offering a single point of contact to help hospital staff has been set up for people to contact during the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Our hospital staff are working tirelessly to manage what is an unprecedented situation and we have all been completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness and generosity from our local communities,” said Anna Sterckx, head of Patient, Carer and Public Engagement at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

“This website offers us a way of effectively managing the range of support that is being offered, helping us to ensure volunteers are being utilised in the best way so they have maximum benefit for our staff and patients, whether that is making a cup of tea, helping with pop-up shops, unloading goods, collecting medicines, or helping to transfer patients between departments.”

Anyone who is fit and healthy, over 18 and not displaying any of the main symptoms of coronavirus can offer their help.

Once on the website, they will be asked how they can offer support – whether that be volunteering at a hospital, becoming a driver, offering telephone support, or offering community support.

To volunteer visit www.worcsacute.nhs.uk and click on the ‘Help our Hospitals’ tab, or visit the site directly at http://whitsapps-001-site1.ctempurl.com/AppOfHelp/

The Trust has also been grateful to receive donations. For those wishing to offer funds or donations of non-perishable foods or care products, contact the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity on 01562 828869 or email [email protected]
