HUNDREDS of runners took part in this year’s Evesham 10K which organisers have hailed as a ‘huge success.’

Organised by Evesham Vale Running Club, it was the 10th outing of the popular race which took place last Sunday on the Crown Meadow.

The popular race saw hundreds of runners complete the course which took in the historic town centre, through Evesham’s award-winning parks and alongside the River Avon.

John Parker, from Cheltenham and County Harriers, crossed the finish first in a time of 33 minutes and 54 seconds to be declared the overall and men’s winner of the race.

In second was Marcus England and David Bell finished in third.

The ladies winner was Shona Crombie-Hicks from Cheltenham and County Harriers who completed the course in a time of 39 minutes and 57 seconds. Shona has been the first woman to cross the line every year since 2013.

Niamh Shoemark finished in second and Christine Horak took third place.

In the junior’s race, 16-year-old Jack Pickett, from Wolverhampton and Bilston, clocked an exceptional time of 37 minutes and 42 seconds to be declared the male winner.

The first female junior to cross the line was Agata Giles, from Cheltenham and County Harriers, who finished in a time of 53 minutes and 25 seconds.

Other notable finishers included 62-year-old Andrew Carter who ran the 10K in 43 minutes and 10 seconds. And 75-year-old Roger Wilson crossed the line in a time of 48 minutes and 19 seconds.

Race Director, Leanne Dean, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came down on Sunday to support the Evesham Town 10k and helped to make it such a huge success and help us raise money for such an important local charity, Evesham and District Mental Health Support Services.”
