THESE knives have been handed into Evesham Police Station earlier today and will now be destroyed.

The surrender comes as part of Operation Sceptre which is designed to combat and reduce knife crime across the UK.

West Mercia Police is one of a large number of forces across the country to be carrying out activities and awareness as part of the operation.

Officers have been placing a heightened focus on prevention and awareness of knife crime, stepped up the number of searches and seizures, collecting and disposing of knives and working with communities and other agencies.

The force has also been collating data and gathering intelligence about knife crime.

A number of knife and weapon surrender bins have been installed at different police stations.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “These weeks are about prevention, education and enforcement using a concentrated effort to make a measurable impact on reducing knife crime.

“We want to send a clear message that Police are actively working to protect communities from knife related violence.”

They urged anyone with information on suspected knife crime in their area to call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
