ONE lane still remains closed on Port Street after a car crashed into a shop window yesterday.

Due to the damage caused to the building highways chiefs have closed part of the road and three-way traffic lights will be put in place.

Two people were treated for minor injuries after a black Vauxhall Meriva crashed into the shop opposite to the Regal Cinema.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and fire crews, were called to Port Street at about 12.14pm yesterday afternoon.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman told the Observer paramedics treated two patients for minor injuries who were both discharged at the scene. One of the patients was a woman in her 30s, the driver of the car.

No one was trapped as a result of the incident.

Three fire crews from Evesham were also at the scene to make the vehicle and shop front safe. Firefighters have now left after shoring up the building.

The road was closed off for more than six hours whilst emergency services dealt with the incident, and to let a structural engineer assess the damage to the building.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of a black Vauxhall Meriva colliding with a building opposite the Regal Cinema on Port Street, shortly after 12.15pm today.

“Ambulance and fire services also attended but there are no reports of any injuries.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 284s of Thursday, November 2.
