ALTHOUGH the temperatures may still be freezing, tourism chiefs at the Cotswold Blossom Trail have taken the wraps off its 40th anniversary celebrations for 2023.

The 55-mile Cotswold Blossom Trail features the world’s most varied blossoms with the free trail featuring more than seven different varieties.

It’s brought to life by local business providing blossom food and drink and a plum charmer playing music in orchards throughout March to encourage growth

Japan may have its famous cherry blossom, but nothing compares to the Vale of Evesham’s 55-mile spectacular blossom trail featuring more varieties of blossom than anywhere else in the world, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2023.

Apple, pear, cherry, plum, damson, elderflower and blackthorn blossom flourish in the Worcestershire fields and hedgerows throughout April and May providing a free and accessible display for anyone.

Angela Taylor, who has looked after the trail since it began in 1984, explained its significance.

“The arrival of the blossom is celebrated throughout the area as it represents the start of spring and a successful harvest to come,” she said.

“Businesses along the route get into the spirit of things and people can stop on their way around to enjoy blossom cider, blossom cream teas as well as blossom-inspired art exhibitions and craft workshops.

“We even maintain the ancient art of plum charming whereby a musician serenades the orchards during March to encourage the young buds to blossom.

Thousands of visitors return each year to follow the AA-signed trail either by car or bike.

Originally just eight miles long, the trail has grown as more farmers and growers wanted to get involved.

The route also takes in scores of picturesque villages bursting with photo opportunities.

As well as being signed throughout the 55 miles, there’s a free map for people to download from March onwards by visiting www.valeandspa.co.uk.
