AN EVESHAM Olympian shared his memories of his oar-some sporting journey and achievements during a visit to a town retirement home.

Double Olympic Gold medallist Alex Gregory MBE took to the stage at Richmond Villages Wood Norton during a visit to see his grandmother Patricia Shepherd.

The five-time world champion and world record holder for the Great Britain rowing team now travels the world as a motivational speaker.

Residents were able to hear about Alex’s experience at the London 2012 Olympics and even got a chance to hold his gold medal – with some residents even trying it on.

Alex also discussed the highs and lows of his career including the Polar Row which he completed with his crew in August 2017.

The Polar Row is a pioneering Artic expedition in which Alex and his crew forged a route across previously un-rowed Artic water, including the northernmost, recorded point ever reached by a rowing vessel.

Village manager Chris Hill said: “Patricia, Alex’s grandmother is always updating us all on Alex’s fantastic achievements, so when the opportunity rose for Alex to pay us a visit, we were all ecstatic.

“We feel extremely lucky to have had an Olympic rower come along to meet our residents.”
