Number of cyclists on trail blossoms

A RECORD number of cyclists took part in the 18th Blossom Trail Bikeaway.

Starting from Hampton Ferry in Evesham, 168 blossom spotting enthusiasts cycled a combined total of almost 6,000 miles around the blooming Vale countryside, equivalent to riding from Evesham to John O Groats ten times.

Organisers said the day raised funds for the Pershore Division of St John Ambulance and the Vale of Evesham Community First Responders and hailed this year’s event as the best bikeaway ever. With the blossom on the route the finest it has been for many years and more families than ever before taking part, it really was an exceptional day out for everyone

Henry Sandon MBE, President of the Pershore Division of St John Ambulance, who officially started the event said “ This was a wonderful event, it was by far the best it has ever been – the weather, the blossom and the amount of cyclists that turned out to support us.

“With almost three quarters of all the participants completing the 50 mile route – a marvellous achievement, they should all be very proud of themselves.

“Grateful thanks to everyone who rode, to Hampton Ferry and to Wychavon District Council for their most valued continuing support.” he added.
