News in Brief

MEMBERS of Evesham Dementia Action Alliance brought the wind quartet of the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) to a concert at Offenham Village Hall.

People living with dementia and their carers enjoyed an afternoon of music with Catherine Handley on flute, Graeme Adams on oboe, Sara Temple on clarinet and Rosemary Cow on bassoon.

Music lovers enjoyed a programme from classical music to fun music such as the Mexican Hat Dance.

The next event will be a ‘knees-up teas up at Christmas’ at Norton Village Hall on November 21 from 2-4pm.

A variety of knees up music and the Big Ben Banjo Band will be on hand and admission is £1

VISITORS to The Hive can go back in time this October when the Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service hosts an archaeological tour of the site.

The event will be held between midday and 1pm next Saturday, October 27 with a walking tour which will allow residents of all ages to discover how the site has changed over time, from a Roman street to Civil War defences and Victorian cattle market.

Whilst taking in the history of the site, there is also an opportunity on the tour to see and handle finds from The Hive excavations.

Tickets cost £5. Visit www.thehiveworcester.org/explore-the-past-events for more.

FIRE chiefs have urged residents to make sure their alarms are up to date, in the right place and to test them every week.

This month, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging everyone to make sure they have enough smoke alarms in their home and that they work.

A smoke alarm can give someone the few extra seconds they need to escape in a fire.

While the majority of homes across the country now have an alarm fitted, most people are not aware that the average alarm has a lifespan of just ten years and then needs replacing.
