WYCHAVON District Council is set to discuss its new leader next week after Coun Bradley Thomas advised he was standing down from the role on Friday.
Coun Thomas, who was reappointed leader at May’s annual council meeting, has been selected by the Bromsgrove Conservative Association (BCA) as its candidate for the next general election.
This comes after current Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid announced he would not be standing for re-election.
Wychavon must now appoint a new Leader until the end of the term of office in May 2027.
Next Wednesday, the council will discuss the role and is recommended to decide the appointment of the new leader.
The leader is responsible for all Executive functions, including appointing a Deputy Leader and the Executive Board.
Coun Thomas, who represents Harvington and Norton, became one of the youngest leaders in the country when he was first elected to the role aged 32 in 2018.
He was first elected to the council in 2014 and has previously represented the Broadway and Wickhamford ward.
