A STATE of the art ultrasound scanner has been unveiled at Evesham Community Hospital thanks to the generosity of the hospital’s League of Friends.

The £66,000 scanner has been funded by the group and replaces the previous machine, also funded by the Friends.

The new addition will provide improved scans and visual images for mums-to-be, but also has the ability to provide scans for patients with a wider range of health conditions too, including for physio patients who have muscular injuries.

It’s estimated the new equipment will initially serve around 15 patients a day who have appointments in the hospital.

Frances Smith, chair of the Evesham Community Hospital League of Friends said: “The League of Friends here at Evesham work tirelessly to support our local hospital and we are delighted to be able to fund the new scanner which will improve the care and overall service the staff can give to mums-to-be and other patients too.

“It is great that we now have this modern, state of the art machine at Evesham Community Hospital.”

Although based in Evesham Community Hospital which is part of Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the ultrasound department is run by staff from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The scanner follows the introduction of a new x-ray machine into the department in 2016.
