New Regal era starts with nod to old

AN EXCITING year of improvement work has been kicked off at the Regal Cinema with the unveiling of a retro read-o-graph.

Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddleston was on hand for the grand reveal on March 19 which signals the start of further investment for the cinema.

Later this year the owners of the Regal will spend £825,000 to build a fourth floor on the Port Street building to add two new smaller screens as well as panoramic sky bar.

New lighting and sound systems will also be installed and the limited existing facilities for live performers will be renovated.

Planning and listed building consent have been granted for the improvement projects and funding is already in place for the majority of the work. But the cinema still needs to fund-raise for the final £50,000 required.

Within the first few weeks of the fund-raising drive more than £6,000 had been raised.

Ian Wiper, owner of The Regal Cinema, said: “Installing the read-o-graph is a milestone in the history of the Regal Cinema and marks the start of what will be a very exciting year for the cinema.”
