ONE of the Vale’s most popular village shows has escaped the axe after a number of volunteers stepped forward to breathe new life into the event.
The Badsey Flower Show has been running for well over a century but in recent years the number of people organising and running the show has diminished.
Organisers admitted late last year that without new helpers for 2015 the much-loved and iconic part of Evesham’s summer events calendar would have to be shelved.
However, following a rallying call for local people to attend a meeting last November, more than 30 people have now stepped forward to show their support.
Committee Chair, Gordon Boon, said: “Badsey Flower Show is a not for profit event, run by community
volunteers for the community.
“Over recent years a number of our committee members and helpers had grown old and less able and one or two had left. We were therefore, very keen to attract some new people.
“We were absolutely delighted that at our annual AGM in January we were able to welcome seven new committee members and a number of helpers.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come forward. We are very grateful for the response.”
“We are delighted to announce therefore, the date of the 2015 Badsey Flower Show – which is Saturday, July 25.
New Badsey Flower Show committee member Jenny Davenport said: “I noticed the recent call for help in the
local media and, as a new villager, I was keen to find a way to get involved in the community.
“I also thought it would be a great shame if the show closed so I was very happy to ask ‘what can I do to help’ and now I’ve joined the committee.”
This summer’s show will take place on the Recreation Ground, Sands Lane, Badsey with organisers
promising the usual mix of live entertainment along with an array of stalls and sideshows.
