NEW leaders have been appointed to help drive forward plans to unlock Evesham’s potential and secure a vibrant, prosperous future for the town.

Evesham Place Board has named Phil Maclean, retail director at The Valley shopping centre as its new chair, with Charlotte Hampson, director at Architects Dyer, stepping into the role of vice chair.

Phil brings more than a decade of experience in destination retail and commercial strategy, with a strong track record in place-based development. He is keen to use his skills to support Evesham’s growth and revitalisation.

“Evesham has incredible potential. I’m excited to work with local partners and the community to help the town thrive, drawing on my experience in retail and placemaking to create a more dynamic and attractive destination for residents and visitors alike,” he said.

Charlotte, a long-time Evesham resident, leads an architectural practice based in the town. She brings a deep understanding of regeneration, urban design, and community-led development.

“As someone who lives and works in Evesham, I see first-hand the opportunities we have to enhance our town centre and surrounding areas. I’m committed to helping Evesham become an even better place to live, work, and visit through thoughtful design and collaborative placemaking,” she added.

The pair take over from previous chairman, Tom Tarver of Johnsons property consultants, who remains on the board.

The town centre partnership was created by Wychavon District Council to support the implementation of a 20-year vision as set out in a document called the town centre prospectus.

The group is made up of volunteers from a range of sectors who focus on specific projects that will help make Evesham an even better place to live, work and visit.

Successes to date include a shop front grant improvement scheme, development of a new place brand to help promote Evesham as a visitor destination, solar lighting in Abbey Park and installation of public art on High Street and in Abbey Park.

Councillor Richard Morris, leader of Wychavon and executive member for economic growth and tourism, said: “I’d like to thank Tom for his fantastic contribution to Evesham Place Board. Under his leadership, the board has demonstrated the positive change that can be delivered by harnessing the expertise of a group of people with passion for their place.

“Phil and Charlotte take charge at an exciting time for Evesham with plans progressing to secure a deal to bring the Riverside Shopping Centre into public ownership. They both bring a wealth of experience, local knowledge, and a genuine passion for Evesham.

“I’m confident their leadership will help the Place Board build on its work to attract investment, support businesses, and deliver lasting improvements for the people of Evesham.”
