New Evesham Youth Council to give a voice to young people

A NEW scheme aimed at empowering young people and giving them a voice in the future of their town has been launched in Evesham.

The town council is setting up a youth council to provide a platform for young people to get involved in important decisions affecting their community through regular meetings and hands-on projects.

Members will work alongside town councillors to help shape policies, propose new initiatives, and offer fresh perspectives on town matters.

The development aligns with the Town Plan’s key goals of creating vibrant spaces and opportunities for young people, and encourages their active participation in local governance and community development.

The project aims to ensure young people’s views are represented at the town council level whilst building skills such as leadership and teamwork.

It also aims to encourage collaboration between schools, youth groups, and the town council, ensuring all young people have a chance to contribute.

Councillors Julie Tucker and Robert Raphael are leading the project, with Evesham Mayor John Clatworthy and other councillors on hand to guide the youth council’s development.

“We believe it is essential that young people have a voice in how their town develops,” said Coun Robert Raphael.

“By working together with local youth groups and schools, we can ensure that the future of Evesham reflects the ideas, creativity, and aspirations of our young residents.”

Evesham Town Council is inviting local youth groups, schools, and organisations to encourage young people to take part.

Whether through elections, nominations, or sign-ups, the initiative aims to be inclusive, representing a broad range of voices from the town’s youth community.

It will then be trialled for a series of meetings over three months at the Town Hall, and as it grows, its members will have the freedom to develop and lead their own initiatives, supported by guidance and a small budget from the council.
