A NATIONAL Trust site near Pershore will showcase its breathtaking countryside and stunning estate to the nation in a new TV series.

Croome is set to feature on Channel 5’s ‘Secrets of the National Trust’ tonight (Tuesday), when Anneka Rice will reveal how the famous landscape gardener Capability Brown designed the unique landscape at Croome.

During her recent visit to the National Trust site, Anneka rowed along the river that meanders through the parkland and spoke to Michael Forster-Smith, Croome’s general manager, about the fascinating story of Croome’s ‘house within a house’.

She also rolled up her sleeves to help with repairs to one of the walls in the court’s basement.

The series, hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, will uncover hidden rooms, archaeological discoveries, surprising wildlife and, through the use of filming techniques such as drone cameras, viewers will gain a rare perspective of the Trust’s historic buildings.

Mr Forster-Smith said: “We were delighted to welcome Anneka Rice to show her the river, park and house Capability Brown designed in the 18th century for the 6th Earl of Coventry.

“She was the first person in many years to take to the water in a rowing boat and it looked great to see a boat on the river again.”

Croome’s park and lakeside are open from 10am to 5.30pm and Croome Court is open from 11am to 4.30pm every day.

Call the National Trust site on 01905 371006 or visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/croome for more information.
