Music theme is a huge hit for carnival

THE 91st Evesham Carnival hit the high notes with a celebration of musicals.

The 2019 event took place last Saturday (June 29), starting and ending on the Crown Meadow.

After the procession though the town, the fun continued on Crown Meadow with a packed afternoon of activities as residents showed their support for one of the highlights of the town’s calendar despite the sweltering conditions.

The carnival is organised by the Vale of Evesham Round Table alongside a dedicated committee of volunteers.




Sponsorship came from several local companies including The Valley whose generous support is crucial in ensuring the continuation of the carnival.

Among the highlights of the afternoon with the famous faces who were taken to the stocks and given a soaking to raise money for Evesham and District Mental Health Support Services.


Town MP Nigel Huddleston and Mayor of Evesham Coun Mark Goodge were among those to face ‘trial by sponge’ as part of a fund-raiser organised by Evesham Ladies Circle.

The popular group were also tasked with discovering the royalty needed to crown this year’s event and take their place at the head of the procession.

Young Caitlin Paul was named as this year’s Carnival Queen and was ably assisted by attendees Jessica Chibge, Corey Burton, Maddie Longford and Darcy Longford.

Evesham Carnival is an annual, free, public event whose origins date back to 1928. The carnival prides itself on working closely with community groups before, during and after the day in order to ensure it runs smoothly.

Since 1965 the lead organisers of the carnival have been The Vale of Evesham Round Table, who since 2015 work alongside a committee of volunteers.
